Potlatch Fund trainers have nearly 100 years of non-profit experience between them. They bring that experience to the following trainings:

  • relationship building
  • clarifying your mission
  • the elevator speech
  • outlining a project
  • completing the application
  • evaluation

This course is designed for beginning to intermediate grant writers.

Introduction to Financial Management

Once you get a grant you need to look after it well; this training overviews all aspects of financial management within a nonprofit environment. Topics include:

  • budgeting
  • federal and state compliance requirements
  • hiring and managing staff
  • financial reporting
  • financial decision making

Nonprofit Startup

“The lack of non profits in Indian Country is our biggest weakness.” Many foundations require applicants to be tax exempt under section 501(c)3 of the tax code. This training:

  • explains tax exemption
  • outlines the options for tax exemption within Indian Country
  • guides trainees through an on-line non-profit creation process

Media Management

This training focuses on how to present your organization or story to the media and emphasizes the need for a plan – especially for those times when things go bad.

Governance Training

“Most non-profits fail because relationships between Boards and staff become strained”. The Governance Training focuses on

  • role clarification
  • the importance of strategic planning
  • the establishment of clear expectations

Fee for Service Training

In addition to the group training sessions offered Potlatch Fund can provide customized group and one on one training/coaching opportunities.
